Jürgen Berke is a journalist and has worked for Wirtschaftswoche for 35 years. His main topics are telecommunications and cybersecurity. He was one of those affected by the spy affair at Deutsche Telekom, which had spied on his telephone connections while searching for informants. In his articles, he warns of the risks of insecure and untrustworthy IT systems. In 2009, he received the Friedrich Vogel Prize for his report “Operation Goldesel: Wir haben ihre Kontonummer” on illegal data trading. His cover story “Im Auge des Sturms” (In the eye of the storm) about the defensive battles at Thyssenkrupp against an Asian hacker group was awarded the Ernst Schneider Prize by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce in 2017.
